A wave of motor accidents across the country have claimed innocent lives. Police blames reckless driving for the accidents.
In Kirehe District six people were killed in a deadly accident after Khalifani Radjab, the driver of the Coaster bus (RAC827K rammed into a Tanzanian truck (T582ANU/T696ANQ) along Rusumo road and killing five passengers on spot. The driver died instantly. The police and survivors confirmed that the accident that the accident was caused by over-speeding.
In the wake of July 18, 2013, in Rusizi district, another passenger omnibus coming from Bukavu and heading to Uvira town in DR. Congo killed six people on spot after it lost control and swayed off the main road. There were 17 occupants and many of them sustained serious injuries.
In Gatsibo district, a Benz truck knocked dead a cyclist pedestrian on 17th July. the truck also injured a pedestrian who was in the company of the deceased victim. The incident took place in the late evening hours in Kabukungu village, in Kiziguro Sector.
Commenting on some of the accidents, Traffic Police Spokesperson Superintendent (SP) Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi said these areas has multiple traffic sign posts indicating there a sharp corner ahead.
He recommended that drivers should not exceed speed limits since the accidents are clearly caused by reckless driving.
He advised bus drivers to respect traffic rules and stop over speeding. He also advised truck drivers to take enough rests because they are usually involved in accidents because of dosing and fatigue.
