Residents of Kivumu sector in Rutsiro district have commended “Tubura Project” for bringing solar energy closer to them which has become a life saver.
Charles Twagirayezu from Bunyoni cell in Kivumu sector narrates that they could walk for six hours to and from Rubavu district to have their cell phones charged.
Twagirayezu thanks the project administration for helping and solve the problem of lack of lights and charging cell phones.
Anne Marie Nyiranizeyimana, head of the project in Bunyoni cell and an adviser in agriculture explained that solar energy project was introduced in this place by Eric Pohlman.
She adds that Eric Pohlman, regional director of “Tubura” project brought lamps and solar panels and trained agriculture mobilisers who also spread the information among the residents.
A lamp, solar panel and telephone chargers that charge every type of the telephone cost Rwf24.395 but residents are allowed to pay half at first and the rest in installments.
“Tubura” solar energy project started in July 2012 and 89 residents of Bunyoni cell, Kivumu sector in Rutsiro district have purchased the materials.
Residents say that these equipments can be used by people with electricity for lighting and charging in case power goes off.
