Prime Minister of Rwanda Pierre Damien Habumuremyi
Rwanda Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi said that the government will continue supporting poor people which will reduce on the number of people living in poverty in the entire country by the year 2020.
The Prime Minister said this on the 16th/07/2013 in a presentation he made to the Members of Parliament in which he read out the different programs organised by the government to support vulnerable people across the country.
“Among the many program organised is the One cow per poor family [Girinka],Vision 2020 Umurenge [VUP], Health insurance, supporting genocide survivors, reintegration of returnees, relocating people who stay in risk areas, supporting the disabled”, said the Premier.
He further explained saying that all such programs are to help the vulnerable people in Rwanda and the government believed that by the year 2020, the number of the poor people will have reduced by 20%.
The Premier continued explaining saying that 23% of the 80.7% of the medical insurance had been covered by the government in the last fiscal year, adding on that 172.237 families had received cows under the Girinka program.
“77.099 houses have so far been constructed for people who formerly lived in grass-thatched houses, 8.723 refugees have benefitted from the reintegration program, 20.922 families from the 47.680 have been safely resettled”, explained the Premier.
“With support from FARG, we will be able to renovate 3.036 houses of the 1994 genocide survivors in the next 5yrs”, continued the Prime Minister.
He again noted that from the VUP program, 181.229 families have received Rwf 14billion as loans and this is helping many of them improve their social welfare.
He however concluded calling on Rwandans to work and do not depend on such programs which will help them become self- reliant.
