Nyabihu people to participate by 100percent in Mutuelle de santé

Nyabihu district residents are being called upon to start participating in the new economic year by paying their Mutuelle de santé medical insurance contributions.

“Having a medical insurance is an assurance that people get medical services at anytime they desire them with money or no money” says the Coordinator of Mutuelle de santé medical insurance in the district.

Though it is already months in the new economic year, the residents of Nyabihu district understand the importance of being part of the Medical insurance for the sake of their families.

Some of the residents have already paid for the medical insurance especially those who have prepared for this program from the start. “I am well aware of the importance of having my family with medical insurance and prepare for it before hand and I have already paid” says Perpetue Benimana a resident of Kagano village in Gasura cell.

Residents of Gisizi sector say they understand well the importance of having a medical insurance but with the poor crop production they experienced last season, they cannot manage to pay the contribution fee.

John Bagirishya the director of Mutuelle de santé center in Nyabihu district says “though there are difficulties in paying for the local medical insurance, people are doing the best they can to contribute more than last year.”

Nyabihu district has set strategies to improve the participation of people in Mutuelle de santé up to 100% by the end of the economic year. Among these strategies include sensitizing people and soliciting support from churches and religions to inform their followers about the importance of medical insurance.

Nyabihu district has 242 437 residents that should be paying the medical insurance among which 66000 have paid their part. Residents who are beneficiaries of Mutuelle de santé in the 1^st and 2^nd class of poor in Ubudehe social stratification program are 47 644.
