Afro beat singer Uncle Austin has accepted that the venue of his album launch may have cost him a great deal in terms of the turnout, isolating the distance from the city center as probably the main reason why many people never showed up. Austin launched his album entitled Uteye Ubusambo at Expo Ground on Friday night, but the star did not get the turnout he expected.
By going to the outskirts of Kigali, Austin greatly minimized the costs of hiring the basic music equipment including the hall itself –at the cost of his fans. Speaking to the media immediately after the launch Uncle Austin said, “Maybe it’s because we decided to hold the launch a little further from where other concerts have taken place in the past.”
But he did not rule out a congestion of concerts and a lack of means as perhaps one of the reasons for the poor turnout. He said, “People told me at this time they are not loaded and might not make it.” Entrance fee had been fixed at 2,000Rwf and 5,000 Rwf for ordinary and VIP seats respectively.
