m 71 Burera: Farmers advised to grow rare fruits and vegetables
Samuel Sembagare, mayor of Burera district has told sector agronomists to sensitize farmers on growing vegetables and fruits that are rare in this place.
This is because fruits like jackfruit and pumpkins are slowly disappearing in Burera district when they used to be grown there.
Samuel Sembagare says residents should concentrate on growing pumpkins and jackfruit because they grow can grow during dry season and have various vitamins.
Mayor Sembagare also advises residents to grow plums and paw paws which are commonly grown in Burera district.
He adds that measures are being taken to how apples can be grown in Gitovu sector since they have been grown and harvested in Rubavu district and Nyirangarama.
The mayor asserts that as the agricultural sector is working upon increasing agricultural production, they plan on doubling the yields harvested on each hectare.
However, the mayor advises residents to always sow before time because of weather changes.
