Philbert Mugisha, mayor of Nyamagabe district has told residents of Cyanika and Mbazi sectors that electricity will be available in a short period of time.
This follows residents claim that electricity would enable them create more jobs and attain fast social development.
The mayor says that the tender to distribute electricity in these sectors has been awarded to the contractor and the district included this issue in the 2013-2014 performance contracts.
In these sectors, there are schools, health centres, seminaries, sector offices among others which need electricity for better services, mayor reveals.
Pascal Nshimiyimana, a hair dresser in Miko trading centre highlights that using a generator is costly and one cannot make enough profits compared to electricity.
Like Nshimiyimana, residents narrate that if electricity is available, many projects apart from agriculture can be set up. They say it can save them from making over 8 kilometers journey to access services from Nyamagabe town.
Another resident, Jean Bosco Hakizimana narrates: “With availability of electricity, carpentry services can be offered here than obtaining furniture from Nyamagabe town.”
This is confirmed by Espérance Nzayituriki, a student of the vocational school in Nyamagabe town: “It’s tiresome to make it to school but if we had electricity we would get a school nearby. Besides revising without electricity is another task.”
The process of distributing electricity is estimated to be complete in the period of one year.
